Cara Heads Slaughter is my friend AND I am friends with an Olympian. Just saying. :)
Cara Heads Slaughter is one of the most sought-after weightlifting coaches in the DC metro region providing guidance to over 100 athletes and coaches each week. Certified as a USAW International Coach, Cara has served as a competition coach at every level- local, national and international, including as a coach at the 2016 USA Olympic Team Trials. Athletes under Cara's guidance have earned numerous medals at national and international competitions. Additionally, Cara is certified as a IWF Coach Course Instructor and a USAW Coach Course Lead Instructor. Cara has been appointed by USA Weightlifting to assist at numerous USAW training camps, as a Team Leader and Team Coach of international teams, and as a presenter at the USAW Coaching Symposium.
Cara enjoyed a successful 18-year career as an elite weightlifter, earning 2 junior and 8 senior national championship titles, setting numerous junior and senior American records, and representing Team USA at 6 world championships and as a member of the 2000 USA Olympic Team in Sydney. In recognition of her career, Cara was inducted into the USA Weightlifting Hall of Fame in 2020.
Throughout her career, Cara was provided the unique opportunity to train at top USA Weightlifting regional weightlifting training centers, including as a resident athlete at the Olympic Training Center, and to learn from some of the most respected weightlifting coaches in the United States- Tony Ciarelli, Michael Cohen, Bob Morris, and Dr. Kyle Pierce.
Prior to competing in the sport of Weightlifting full time, Cara was a Division I collegiate athlete, earning an athletic scholarship at the University of California, Berkeley. As a freshman, Cara competed in the discus and hammer throw, placing third in the hammer at the (Pac-10) track & field conference championships.

Stacy “Bama” Burr began Powerlifting in the fall of 2014 and never looked back. Stacy is currently the All Time World Record holder in the 148 class across the board in both sleeves and wraps. Her 1,333 lbs total at 148 gave her a 620 Wilks which ranks her as the #2 female Powerlifter in the world.

Stacy played Division II Softball and has won various academic and athletic awards. She earned her degree from Coker College in Physical Education with a specialization in Exercise Science in 2014. She even presented research at the national level with the American College of Sports Medicine in 2014. While attending Coker she also earned her Personal Training certification through the National Council on Strength and Fitness in 2013. In 2014-2015 she served as an Assistant Strength Coach for the softball team at a local high school. One of Stacy’s goals is to be well versed in many different areas in order to help reach the needs of more people. Stacy served an internship underneath a Crossfit instructor and has also done her fair share of OCR races and running events before she fell in love with the sport of Powerlifting.

Brian Mackenzie is a human performance and movement specialist. He is the innovator of the endurance, strength and conditioning paradigm. He has studied performance and movement since 2001 with altitude, hypoxia, breathing mechanics & methods, along with heat and cold exposure. He has spent a lot of his time training and understanding in and around the water, and desert. He has participated in Ironman (Canada 2004) and has run the Western States 100 and the Angeles Crest 100 mile endurance runs. He co-authored the books Power Speed Endurance and The New York Times Best Seller UnBreakable Runner.
His clients include: Ari Emanuel, Kelly Starrett, Tim Ferriss, US Military Units (Navy, Army, Marines), Tia Clair Toomey and many others. He resides in San Mateo, CA.

62: Cheryl Haworth: Olympian, Weightlifter, Coach and Badass

Cheryl Haworth is a 3x Olympian in the sport of Olympic Weightlifting. While does not consider herself a pioneer of women’s weightlifting, most everyone else does. Haworth was one of four Americans to compete in women’s weightlifting’s Olympic debut in 2000, and she was one of two to medal, earning bronze in the +75 kg. class at 17 years old in Sydney.
Before retiring in 2010, Haworth’s list of accomplishments included a bronze medal at the 2005 world championships, three Olympic appearances, a Pan American Games gold medal, three junior world titles and 11 national titles (the most by any U.S. woman). For those reasons and more, Haworth was inducted into the USA Weightlifting Hall of Fame in 2015.
She is also the star of the documentary, Strong!
She now coaches weightlifting in Atlanta, Georgia and is a truly kind, compassionate and wonderful person. Enjoy this episode!
