Laila Tarraf: Strong Like Water
Monday Jun 14, 2021
Monday Jun 14, 2021
Laila Tarraf was the Chief People Officer for Peet’s Coffee and Tea, the iconic Berkeley coffee roaster that launched the craft coffee movement in America, but she had a secret: she was failing in the most important relationships in her life. Yes, she was a strong and effective business leader, the successful daughter of immigrants, and the mother of a toddler, but she was disconnected from her own feelings and had little patience for the feelings of others.
All that changed when life handed her a trifecta of losses: her husband died of an accidental drug overdose, and her parents' deaths followed in quick succession. Laila had spent her life leading from the head, convinced that any display of vulnerability would make her soft.
And it did, but soft turned out to be strong. As she reconnected to her heart, one painful step at a time, something remarkable happened: she became a better leader, a better mother, and a better person. Her heart turned out to be the true source of her power, at home and at work.
Strong Like Water is a book about healing, about waking up, about learning who you are -- who you really, truly are at the core -- and reclaiming and embracing all the pieces of yourself you had long abandoned in the name of survival. For women longing for balance, this is a path to opening our hearts and infusing our leadership and relationships with love, compassion, and authenticity.

Then we head off together – me and creativity and fear – side by side by side forever, advancing once more into the terrifying but marvelous terrain of unknown outcome.”

Kevin Curry: Fit Men Cook (A Best of The Same 24 Hours Replay Episode)
Tuesday Apr 27, 2021
Tuesday Apr 27, 2021
The amazing Kevin Curry of "Fit Men Cook." He says:
"I think we’ve all been there. My “ah-ha” moment happened when I saw a photo of myself on my friend’s Facebook page. My initial reaction was a mixture of denial, surprise and quite truthfully, a little shame for letting myself go as much as I had. I was overweight and felt sluggish, and to compound the issue, my physician told me my blood pressure was steadily rising. So, I did what most people try to do— I started exercising to try to “out train” a poor diet.
"I was wrong. There was not enough cardio or weights in the world that could get this fat off my back. I realized that if I was going to accomplish my fitness goals, it would have to be through a steady, healthy diet, complemented by hard work in the gym.
"So, I went to a half price book store, bought every single book about dieting and started studying nutrition. Shortly after, I got started cooking. I did not have much money so I started experimenting in the kitchen with different proteins and veggies in order to make simple, relatively inexpensive items, taste great. I vowed that I would never eat another boiled chicken breast again unless I had to!
"Fitness is a lifelong journey and I could not imagine a life of eating boring, bland food just to be healthy. Now more than ever, I firmly believe that healthier food options do not have to be boring. Ever. In fact, they are pretty tasty. And even better, the lifestyle changed worked. As I saw my physique begin to change, I was motivated to push harder and set more aggressive goals. Not only did I learn how to lose weight, but also I learned how to gain muscle, with small tweaks in both my diet and training."

Will Turner: Age is Only a Number (A Best of The Same 24 Hours: Replay Episode)
Tuesday Apr 27, 2021
Tuesday Apr 27, 2021
In case you missed this one!
In 2018 (at the age of 60), Will Turner crushed the current record for most Iron distance races (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run) completed in a year. He then repeated the process in 2019, at the age of 61.
In total, he completed 105 Ironman distance triathlons. All at the ripe age of 60 and 61 respectively. His accomplishment was the pinnacle of a 25 year journey into the sport of triathlon. But Will is the first to point out that he is not a gifted athlete; only a stubborn and determined one. He has "failed" himself forward and experienced countless transformational lessons along the way. In addition to being an athlete, Will is a USA Triathlon certified coach and loves working with athletes who are ready to embark on a life-changing journey of discovery and growth.

Geneen Roth: Women, Food and God (A Best of The Same 24 Hours: Replay Episode)
Tuesday Apr 06, 2021
Tuesday Apr 06, 2021
REPLAY EPISODE. Geneen Roth is the author of ten books, including the new This Messy Magnificent Life and New York Times bestsellers When Food Is Love, Lost and Found, and Women Food and God, as well as The Craggy Hole in My Heart and the Cat Who Fixed It.
Join her December retreat: https://retreats.geneenroth.com/december-online/
Over the past thirty years, she has worked with thousands of people in her groundbreaking workshops and retreats and has appeared on numerous national shows, including The Oprah Winfrey Show, 20/20, the Today show, Good Morning America, and The View. She lives in California with charms of hummingbirds; her husband Matt; and Izzy the fabulous, eating-disordered dog.
Geneen Roth's pioneering books were among the first to link compulsive eating and perpetual dieting with deeply personal and spiritual issues that go far beyond food, weight and body image. Rather than pushing away the "crazy" things we do, Geneen's work proceeds with the conviction that our actions and beliefs make exquisite sense, and that the way to transform our relationship with food, our body, and so much more in our life is to be open, curious and kind with ourselves -- instead of punishing, impatient and harsh.
